Brown oak leaves hat

Michael Durning, an artist friend of the Mill, and former President of Paisley Arts Institute, has donated this charming hat decorated with velvet oak leaves to the collection.  The gift comes as the result of a conversation which he and the curator had about reform dress.  Having been invited to look through the belongings of Frances Barrow, the daughter of the founder of Paisley Art Institute, he discovered not only a wonderful example of the above reform dress, but also this interesting hat, here in the West of Scotland, any connection that can be made back to the early years of the Mackintosh-designed Glasgow School of Art is to be seized upon.
