We have this really pretty tin made in our collect We have this really pretty tin made in our collection, made in Greenock by John Drummond, & Sons Ltd. They were based at 180 Dalrymple Street and operated as coopers and the makers of packing cases and tin boxes.

We found this interesting information on the BBC website:

This contribution is taken from the collections of the Mclean Museum and Art Gallery, Greenock. Inverclyde Council

Historical note: Drummonds was a firm which started off as a firm of coopers, making barrels for the local fishing and sugar industries. They developed into tin box manufacturers.

"Well it was just like part of your job doing the tin work really. We made incendiary bombs then it was cans for the troops. It was just much the same only they weren't what we called decorated. A lot of our tins was decorated.. Then we did cigarette tins for the troops, meat cans for the troops. We were working late, a lot of late work during the war, we did a lot of extra time during the war. We had to get the tins out for the troops on time you know.. You got extra money for working overtime."
